NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College Director of Athletics Eugene Marshall announced the resignation of Alan Edwards, head volleyball coach. Edwards will leave Iona to accept a position on the staff of the SEC's University of Tennessee.
"We are sad to lose a coach of Alan's caliber, but we are happy for
the opportunity that he has received and wish him the best of luck,"
said Marshall.
Edwards led the Gaels to a 75-79 overall record in five seasons in
New Rochelle. The Maroon & Gold made four appearances in the MAAC
Championship including an appearance in the final game this past season
at Walt Disney World. Under his tutelage, Iona posted four straight
seasons with a .500 or better record in conference play and this year
earned a program-record 12 wins.
"I'm grateful for the unbelievable opportunity to be apart of the
Iona College community for the last five years," said Edwards. "It is a
very special place. The student-athletes that I have been privileged to
coach and the people I've had the chance to work with have changed the
shape of the coach that I am and what I will be in the future."
A national search for Edwards' replacement will commence
immediately with a new head coach in place for the opening of preseason
camp in August.
