NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College director of athletics Eugene Marshall, Jr. announced the appointment of Jon Killingbeck as Iona's sixth volleyball head coach. Killingbeck comes to New Rochelle after spending the 2011 spring season at Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington.
"I'm pleased to announce Jon as the newest addition to our coaching family at Iona College," said Marshall. "Jon's passion and energy for the sport will rub off on our current student-athletes and I look forward to seeing the program move forward."
"I'd like to thank Gene for this amazing opportunity," said Killingbeck. "The program has seen tremendous growth over the last couple years and I look forward to continuing the growth and bring the program to the next level. With preseason practice starting next week, we'll hit the ground running right away."
Killingbeck spent the spring semester at Columbia Basin College, joining the ranks as 2010 came to a close. Prior to accepting the head coaching position at CBC, Killingbeck spent one season as an assistant coach at Arizona Western College in Yuma (AWC), Arizona. He was responsible for assisting in all aspects of the program including recruiting, film editing, strength and conditioning and practice and game planning. Killingbeck joined the AWC staff after working as the lead assistant coach at Division III Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA where he assisted with recruiting efforts, film study, strength training, and practice organization.
Before his stint at Whitman, Killingbeck served as an assistant coach and director of volleyball operations at Seattle University where he assisted with recruiting, scouting, and video editing. While at SU, Killingbeck earned a master's degree in sports administration and leadership, graduating with honors in the summer of 2009.
Coach Killingbeck began his coaching career while earning a Bachelor of Science in geology from Central Washington University (CWU). He served as a volunteer assistant coach for two seasons, helping with practice, winter and spring workouts, and video editing. While he was at CWU, the Wildcats reached the NCAA playoffs both seasons.
Killingbeck has also spent the last four years gaining additional experience as head coach of four different club organizations on teams ranging from ages 15 through club teams at Seattle University.
