Edison, NJ - Three MAAC baseball standouts were named to the ECAC Division I All-Star team on Thursday with Siena's Dan Paolini and Marist's Ricky Pacione earning first team honors, while Canisius' Sean Jamieson was voted to the second team.
Paolini finished his junior season with a .380 career batting average
and 56 home runs, both program records. It was the 56 long balls in
just three seasons that earned him national recognition as one of the
top power hitters in all of college baseball. Paolini was named a Second Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball
in 2010 after leading the nation with .49 home runs per game, becoming
the only Siena student athlete ever to be tabbed to an All American Team
at the Division I level. He was selected MAAC Rookie of the Year as a
freshman, and MAAC Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior. This
year, he helped the Saints reach the MAAC title game, belting 19 home
runs and breaking his own single-season RBI record with 67. Paolini was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 10th Round of
the Major League Baseball draft and has since signed a contract with the
franchise. He is currently playing for the Pulaski (Va.) Mariners
Pacione, who graduated from Marist in May, was chosen by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 48th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Pacione was named First Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) at utility this season after making 35 starts in left field and 17 behind the plate. He led Marist in batting average (.376), on-base percentage (.471) and total bases (101) total bases in 2011. For his career, Pacione ranks in Marist's top 10 in 10 statistical categories, and top three in five: hits (271, second); games played (212, second); runs batted in (152, third); triples (13, third); and at bats (804, third). Pacione, who majored in Business Administration/Finance, was named CoSIDA/Capital One Second Team Academic All-American this year. He was named Academic All-District each of the last three seasons, and was a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection.
Jamieson started 57 games at shortstop during the 2011 season, leading Canisius in batting average (.350), runs scored (60), home runs (13), RBI (51), walks (34) and stolen bases (22). Jamieson was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Male Student-Athlete of the Year on August 2. He was named the MAAC Co-Player of the Year in baseball as well as an All-MAAC First-Team selection. Jamieson has also earned Capital One Academic All-America Second-Team honors and was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week (March 28). He also was one of 10 shortstops named a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, an award given to the top shortstop in the country. Following the 2011 season, Jamieson was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the Major League Baseball Draft. Jamieson was selected in the 17th round (No. 526 pick overall). Jamieson is the sixth Canisius College baseball player associated with the program to be drafted in the last four years. The Simcoe, Ontario native is currently playing for the Vermont Lake Monsters of the New York-Penn League.
The head coaches, or his/her designee, within the ECAC membership voted on the teams and individual awards.
