Iona Tabbed By Coaches for 2011 Men's Soccer Title

- Iona College is a narrow favorite in the race for the 2011 MAAC men's soccer
title in a preseason poll voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
Iona
finished with 88 points in the poll, two points ahead of Loyola University
Maryland (86). Fairfield University was picked third with 73 points, and Siena
College finished in fourth place with 66 points. Saint Peter's College placed fifth
(60), followed by Marist College (57), Niagara University (41), Canisius College
(35), Rider University (27), and Manhattan College (17).
Niagara's
Carl Haworth was selected as the 2011 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. Haworth,
an All-MAAC First Team choice in 2010, was second in the league with 26 points
on 11 goals and four assists last season.
Joining
Haworth on the Preseason All-MAAC team are midfielders Krystian Witkowski of
Marist and Harry Newman of Saint Peter's. The forwards are Iona's Samuel Adjei,
Marist's Stephan Brossard, and Siena's Sindre Ek. The backs are Fairfield's
Jonny Raj, Loyola's Gerwyn Jones and Jamie Libby, and Marist's Josh Faga. Fairfield's
Michael O'Keefe is the coaches' pick at goalkeeper.
