Offensive Player of the Week
Hannah Hedrick, Niagara, Sr., Outside Hitter 5-10, Cincinnati,
Ohio/Oak Hills
Hedrick led Niagara in kills (50), kills per set (4.55), and
hitting percentage (.315) en route to being named to the 2011 Blue-Gold Invitational
All-Tournament team in the season-opening classic last weekend. Hedrick
recorded match highs of 22 kills in the 3-2 defeat versus Oakland on Friday and
15 kills in the setback against Toledo on Saturday. Hedrick notched
double-doubles versus Oakland (22 kills and 23 digs) and Wright State (13 kills
and 13 digs).
Defensive Player of the Week
Theresa Harvey, Iona, Jr., Outside Hitter 5-8, Fairfax, VA./Fairfax
Replacing one of the top liberos in NCAA history was no
problem for junior libero Theresa Harvey who stepped into the role for the
first time in her career and recorded 48 digs in two matches to lead the Gaels'
defensive back line. Harvey posted a career-high 27 in a four-set defeat vs.
St. John's and had 21 in a three-set win over Navy. She recorded just two
errors in 56 service receptions (96.4%) in seven sets played.
Rookie of the Week
Mackenzie Stephens, Marist, Fr., Middle Blocker 6-2,
Holland, Michigan/West Ottawa
Stephens had 19 kills to only five errors for a
.333 hitting percentage to help Marist to a 1-2 record at the Pitt/Duquesne invitational.
In her collegiate debut against Duquesne, Stephens had 9 kills and a .389
hitting percentage, both good for second on the team. She lead the Red Foxes
with 12 blocks over the three matches, an average of 1.33 blocks-per-set, and
was third on the team with 19 kills and 2.11 kills per set.
