Beamon and Mason Named Men's Basketball Player of the Week

George Beamon, Manhattan, Jr., G/F, 6-4, 170, Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn
Beamon averaged 22.5 points and 7.0 rebounds last week helping lift the Jaspers to consecutive wins over Iona and Siena. He shot 50% (16-32) from the field and 90% (9-10) at the free-throw line as Manhattan extended its win streak to three games. Beamon began his superb play on Thursday posting a game-high 21 points in the Jaspers' 75-72 victory at Iona. He grabbed seven rebounds, dished out three assists and shot 7-for-8 from the free-throw line to give the Gaels their first MAAC loss of the season. Then on Saturday, Beamon scored a game-high 24 points shooting 10-for-19 from the field (52.6%) to knock off Siena, 72-53, at Draddy Gymnasium. He grabbed seven rebounds, had three steals, blocked two shots and dished out two assists in the win over the Saints.
Rookie of the Week
Antoine Mason, Niagara, R-Fr., G, 6-3, 210, Queens, N.Y./New Rochelle
Mason paced the Purple Eagles to a weekend sweep of Saint Peter's and Marist by averaging 22 points per game, 3.5 rebounds per game and 3.5 assists per game. His fast start to games this past weekend helped lead Niagara to its first home conference weekend sweep since February 2010. Mason scored 15 of his 19 points in the first half of Niagara's 85-73 victory Saint Peter's on Friday. He also provided five rebounds and tied a team-high with four assists on the night. In Sunday's win over the Red Foxes, Mason finished with a game-high 25 points, which was one-point shy of tying his career-high, on a career-high 62.5 field goal percentage (10-for-16). He set a new career-best with four 3-pointers and led the game with two steals. Mason finished the weekend shooting 50 percent from the field (17-for-34) and from behind the 3-point line (6-for-12).
