Taryn Johnson, Fairfield
Sr., Forward, 5-11, Brockton,

Senior Taryn Johnson averaged a double-double with 18.7
points and 12.3 rebounds, shot 65.2 percent (15-for-23) from the floor, blocked
five shots, and stole the ball seven times to help Fairfield to a 2-1
week. In the Stags victory over Siena on January 9, Johnson tallied 15
points, nine rebounds, three blocks, and four steals. Against Marist three days
later, Johnson posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Johnson
capped off the week with her best game of the season in Fairfield's victory
over Canisius. She recorded her sixth double-double of the year by tying a
career high with 22 points and grabbing a season-high 15 rebounds. The forward
picked up almost all of her points from the charity stripe, going 18-for-24 set
Fairfield's single game record for free throws made. In addition, she brought
her career points total to 998 and is two shy of becoming the 25th Stag in
program history, and the second one this season, to score 1,000 points for her
career.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Damika Martinez, Iona
Fr., Guard, 5-7, Meriden, CT/Orville H. Platt
Freshman guard Damika Martinez averaged 19.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists
and 1 block and 1 steal as the Gaels went 2-1 in conference action. Martinez
shot 48.9 percent from the field, including a 10-17 effort from the field when
she scored 28 points and pulled down five rebounds against Canisius. Martinez
followed that up with a 17 point, five rebounds game against Rider before
wrapping up her week with 14 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and three
steals at home against Manhattan. In MAAC play this season, Martinez is
averaging 21.3 points per contest as well as 5.7 rebounds.
