Edison, NJ – Iona’s Leonard Korir was named the MAAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Performer of the Week, while fellow Gael Regina Neumeyer earned the award on the women’s side.

Korir, a senior from Iten, Kenya, finished first overall in the men's mile run at the first Saturday Night at the Armory event at the Armory Track and Field Center in Manhattan. Korir's time of 4:03.57 was less than two-tenths of a second faster than Princeton's Peter Callahan. Korir, the reigning Indoor Track National Champion in the 5,000-meters, topped his personal best of 4:04.03, set last year in the same venue at the MAAC Championship. Thirty-three performers competed in three heats of the event.

Neumeyer, a freshman from Germany, ran the second fastest 3,000-meter time in school history with a 9:35.66 and a third place finish in the Saturday Night at the Armory meet. Neumeyer finished less than a second behind the second place finisher. She bested former MAAC champion McKayla Plank's Iona rookie record of 9:42.79 from 2006. 19 competitors participated in the women’s 3,000.

The 2012 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held on February 17 at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in New York, N.Y.
