Buffalo, NY - The winningest coach in conference history, Canisius College women's lacrosse head coach Scott Teeter has signed a contract extension through the 2014 season, announced by Director of Athletics Bill Maher on Monday.

"Scott Teeter has taken the women's lacrosse program at Canisius College from a struggling new program into one of the top programs in the northeast during his nine seasons" Maher said.  "Scott continues to build an outstanding reputation in the women's lacrosse community and we are pleased that he will continue to lead our program."
During his nine-year tenure, Teeter has completely turned the fortunes of one of the nation's worst programs, guiding a team that averaged fewer than two wins per season to MAAC Champions in 2011. The Griffs finished the 2011 campaign with a school-record 14 wins to go along with the program's first conference title.

Canisius also made its mark on the national scene in 2011, finishing the season with a final RPI ranking of 24 and ahead of perennial powers Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins, Richmond and Boston University. Teeter mentored the program's first regional All-American in addition to a school-record seven All-MAAC selections.

In addition, Teeter served as head coach of the Canadian Under-19 National Team the past two years, leading the squad at the 2011 IFWLA World Championship in Hannover, Germany. Named the team's coach in December 2009, Teeter guided Canada to a bronze-medal showing, the team's best finish in the tournament.

"I would like to thank President John Hurley, Dr. Conley and Bill Maher for their continued support and this opportunity to continue at Canisius," Teeter said. "I have developed a lot of passion for Canisius College during my tenure, from starting as a student-athlete to reaching the pinnacle of our conference last season with the program's first title. After reaching our first goal of a conference championship, we are now focused on taking an even further step. It is an exciting time for Golden Griffin lacrosse with the increased commitment to the sport by the MAAC and Canisius.

"I have built a lot of close friendships and connections during my career and am thrilled that I am able to continue with those during the next three seasons. My wife and I are very excited to be able to stay in Buffalo and close to our families in Western New York and Southern Ontario."

The 2005 MAAC Coach of the Year, Teeter has guided a program that won only 11 games and two conference matches in seven seasons before his arrival to 68 victories during his tenure, the most wins by a MAAC coach in the conference's history.

Overall, Teeter has mentored 34 all-conference players, four MAAC Players of the Year and two student-athletes who competed in the most recent Women's Lacrosse World Cup.
