New Rochelle, N.Y. - Wellspring Water is an ongoing project developed by Iona
junior Kimberleigh Constanzo. The project collects empty cans and bottles and
uses them towards building water wells in Africa. Not having access to
freshwater causes many Africans to walk over 10 miles to get clean water or
risk drinking unclean water that can lead to illness and disease. To date,
Wellspring Water has collected over 65,000 bottles and cans, raising over $3000
to build clean water systems.
As part of
Iona College's Make A Difference Week, the Volleyball team helped Kimberleigh
collect four large bags of cans and bottles and bring them for redemption. They
also participated in a presentation that helped educate the campus on this
project and how to get involved. The team plans on continuing to assist
Kimberleigh in her mission by placing collection bins in the locker rooms and
redeeming them on a weekly basis.
