New Rochelle, N.Y. - The Iona Men's Water Polo team volunteered at the 2012 Jarden Triathlon. It took place on September 23, 2012. The team left Iona at 4am and arrived at the location at around 4:30am and returned to Iona at 11am after the triathlon ended.

At the triathlon, the team held many jobs and responsibilities. They were in charge of setting up a lot of the stations around the main site. Many of the Iona Athletes were carrying boxes of food and water from station to station at 5:30am in the morning. A small group were put on a boat and helped set up the swimming course. Before the events started, they also cleaned the beach up of all trash and debris. Throughout the day the team handed out water, food, and cheers to the participants.

Over 1,500 professional and amateur athletes from around the world competed in the event, which consists of a 9/10ths mile swim in Long Island Sound; a 25 mile scenic bike course; and a 6.2 mile run through Rye.  This race is also a qualifier for the popular "Escape to Alcatraz" triathlon. Now in its 28th year, the event is one of the northeast's major Olympic distance races, awarding over $10,000 in prize money to male and female winners, as well as generous donations to charitable causes.
