New Rochelle, N.Y. - On November 19, Iona Athletics participated in a
Thanksgiving Drive in conjunction with Iona Campus Ministry. Many of Iona's clubs, organiztions, and
employees participated in the event as well and were able to provide
Thanksgiving meals for over 150 families in conjection with three local
organiztions: Hope Community Services of New Rochelle, Greystone Foundation
Child & Youth Services of Westchester County, and Abraham House of the
Bronx. The Iona Athletics community was
able to contribute baskets to 18 different families from these organizations as
part of this event.
Iona's
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee was responsible for organizing Athletics
role in the event. SAAC members actively sought out donations from teammates,
coaches, family, and friends to contribute towards the basket. Teammates and
coaches on each of Iona's teams played an active role in helping to raise
money, shop for the food, decorate the baskets, and load the baskets into vans
to be delivered. Each basket contained a gift card to a local supermarket and
various other canned foods, beverages, and ingredients necessary to prepare a
Thanksgiving meal.
