Marist Sweeps MAAC Tennis Preseason Poll

Edison, NJ - The Marist College men's and
women's tennis teams were selected as favorites to win the MAAC Championships
in 2012, according to the head coaches' preseason poll.
The Marist men, who have won four consecutive MAAC titles,
topped the poll with 49 points. The Red Foxes, led by 13th-year head coach and
2011 Coach of the Year Tim Smith, return All-MAAC First Team performers Lorenzo
Rossi, Joris Van Eck, Matt Himmelsbach, and Will Reznek. Rossi was named the
2011 Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.
Fairfield finished second in the poll with 42 points and Loyola and Niagara
tied for third with 27 points. Saint Peter's finished fifth with 22, Siena
(21), and Rider (8).
The Marist women, who won the MAAC Championship in 2011, received 60 points in
the preseason poll. Marist is led by head coach Roge Nesbitt and returns
All-MAAC singles selection Joana Sun. Also returning are All-MAAC double
selections Kelsey Raynor, Erin McCarthy and Marielle Campbell.
Fairfield was second in the women's poll with 59 points, followed by Loyola
with 48. Siena finished fourth with 34 and Saint Peter's was fifth with 31. Manhattan
(30), Niagara (17) and Rider (9) rounded out the poll.
The 2012 MAAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships will
take place at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, New Jersey from April 28-29.
