Scott Machado, Iona, Sr., G, 6-1, 180, Queens, N.Y./St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.)
Machado averaged 14.5 points, 12.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals while holding an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.4:1 in Iona's 2-0 week. He was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Machado had 16 points, nine assists and four steals in a MAAC win on the road at Rider on Wednesday on ESPN3 before a 13-point, 15-assist effort in a nationally televised Bracketbusters win vs. Nevada at home on ESPN2. It was Machado's 11th double-double of the year and sixth effort with at least 15 assists.
Co-Rookies of the Week
Chavaughn Lewis, Marist, Fr., G-F, 6-5, 185, Queens, N.Y./St. Mary's Manhasset
In his third week in the starting lineup, Lewis notched his 13th and 14th consecutive games in double figures with 12 and 24 point games over Loyola and Maine, respectively. His game versus the Black Bears was especially noteworthy as he registered career highs in points, rebounds with nine and assists with five. For the week, Lewis averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting .519 (14-27) from the field and .400 (2-5) from three point range.
Evan Hymes, Siena, Fr., G, 5-8, 147, Durham, N.C./Kestrel Heights Charter
Hymes turned in the best performance of his rookie campaign when it mattered most, scoring 21 points and dishing out seven assists in the Saints' win over Manhattan. He made 8-13 field goals, and 5-8 3-pointers, including the biggest shot of the game - a 27-foot bomb with the shot clock running out after the Jaspers pulled within five late. Hymes played the full 40 minutes for the 14th time in 16 games against Manhattan, and added a career-high four steals. He is on pace to post the highest scoring average for a freshman in Siena's 72-year history. On the week, he averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 assists and shot 46% from the field and 42% from 3-point range.
