Morris, Cronin, Barr and Steinberger Honored With Weekly Awards

Edison, NJ - Loyola University Maryland's Brennan Morris and Caitlin Cronin were named the MAAC Swimmers of the Week, while Fairfield University's Evan Barr and Ashlee Steinberger swept the Diver of the Week Awards.

Morris set two school records at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday and won one individual event to wrap up the regular season with 24-straight undefeated victories. Morris won the 100-meter backstroke in 57.64 to shatter Sam McQuaid's program record of 58.77 from 2009. He also led off the Greyhounds' 400-meter medley relay of Jeffrey Rowe, Patrick Mukri and Tony Florida that broke Loyola's 14-year old program record in the event. The quartet combined for a time of 4:01.33 to replace the former record of 4:02.85 (1998) atop the record board.  

Cronin wrapped up the regular season with four school records and two pool records in Loyola's 147-115 victory at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. Cronin won the 100-meter short course freestyle in 1:00.44 to better teammate Lauren Mari's school record of 1:00.88 from last year. She also shattered Tori Kamuaff's program record in the 200-meter freestyle (2:11.16, 2008) and broke MSM's pool record, touching first in 2:06.84. In relay events, Cronin anchored Loyola's 400-meter medley relay to a new school and pool record, finishing in 4:32.20. The quartet of Mary Henkels, Maya Olivieri, Erin Shea and Cronin smashed Loyola's former record of 4:45.75 from 1994. Cronin was also on the 200-meter freestyle relay team of Lauren Mari, Meghan Barry and Henkels that finished runner-up in 1:51.78, bettering Loyola's school record of 1:53.96 from 1996. 

Barr had a solid outing in the Stags final dual of the season against NJIT on February 4. He posted a personal best of on the 1-meter, notching a score of 243.08. On the 3-meter he had a score of 227.33.

Steinberger had a solid outing in the Stags final dual of the season against NJIT on February 4. She had a personal best of 234.38 on the 1-meter. On the 3-meter, she had a mark of 215.78.

The 2012 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships will be held Thursday, February 16 through Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY, hosted by Canisius College and Niagara University.
