Canisius Women's Lacrosse Chosen as Preseason Favorites

NJ - The Canisius College Golden Griffins have been chosen as the preseason
favorites to win the 2012 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship, as determined by
a vote of the conference's seven head coaches.
Canisius
won the 2011 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship last year upsetting top-seeded
Fairfield University, 13-8. The Griffs went 5-1 in the conference and 12-5
overall during their championship campaign last season.
Canisius’
Megan Oosting was chosen as the 2012 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. Oosting
is a two-time All-MAAC First Team selection. She set Canisius’ single season
draw control record with 81 in 2011 and is second in program history with 131
career draw controls, just 11 shy of the record. Oosting recorded 52 goals, 11
assists, and 63 points in the 2011 season. She ranked second in the MAAC with 2.60
goals per game and fourth in the league with 3.15 points per game.
Canisius
topped the poll with 45 points. Fairfield finished second in the poll with 42
points. Marist College and Siena College tied for third with 31 points. Iona
College finished fifth with 23 points, followed by a tie for sixth between
Manhattan College and Niagara University with 12 points.
The
preseason All-MAAC team consists of Canisius’ Carly Quinn, Fairfield’s Melanie
Raso, and Marist’s Kelly Condon at attack. The midfielders are Oosting,
Fairfield's Amanda Best and Chloe Mangan, Manhattan’s Elizabeth Dugan, and
Marist’s Jamie Romano. Iona's Kelsey Sickles and Amanda Zimmerlink, Marist’s
Bailey Knapton, and Siena's Amanda Corso were selected at defense. Siena’s
Kristen Concordia was chosen as the goalkeeper.
