2012 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship Bracket
Springfield, Mass. - The quarterfinal seeds are set for the 2012 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship on Friday.
The first game tips-off at 9:30 a.m. and features #7 Iona College against #2 Fairfield University. Iona is coming off a dramatic overtime victory against Rider in the first round of the tournament and will look to carry that momentum into their matchup against the Stags. Fairfield finished their season on a four game win-streak and will try to continue that trend on Friday. The Stags swept the regular season against Iona, winning 62-58 on Jan. 2 and 78-64 Jan. 29.
Game two pits #6 Siena College and #3 Manhattan College for an 11:30 a.m. showdown. Both games in the series between these two teams were tightly contested, with Manhattan winning the first battle 56-53. But Siena returned the favor at home on Feb. 17, besting the Jaspers 61-56 in Loudonville.
The third game of the day sees #9 Saint Peter's College take on top-seeded Marist College in a 1:30 p.m. contest. The Peahens are fresh off their triumph over Canisius in the first round and hope to earn a similar result on Friday. But, the Red Foxes own a seven-game win streak at this point and are the hottest team in the conference. Marist also swept the regular season against the Peahens.
The last women's quarterfinal matchup features #5 Niagara University and #4 Loyola University at 3:30 p.m. The teams split their two games against each other, with the Purple Eagles taking the first contest 57-54. The Greyhounds won the second contest however, handily defeating Niagara 68-48.
