Edison, N.J. - Iona, the 2012 MAAC regular season champion, received an at-large bid in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship and will face BYU in the First Four at the University of Dayton Arena in Dayton Ohio.
The Gaels (25-7) will take on the Cougars (25-8) on Tuesday, March 13 at 9:00 p.m. on truTV.
The winner of Tuesday night's game will move on to take on third-seeded Marquette in the second round on Thursday, March 15 in Louisville.
Iona earning an at-large selection is just the second time in the history of the MAAC that a member institution earned a spot in the NCAA Championship without the league's AQ. In 1995, Manhattan accomplished that feat after losing the title game in overtime to the conference champion Saint Peter's. That season, the Jaspers stunned fourth-seeded Oklahoma with a 77-67 victory in Memphis before falling to fifth-seeded Arizona State in the second round.
