MAAC Offensive Player of the Week

SIMON GIOURMETAKIS, CANISIUS

A, Sr., 5-10, 186, Edmonton, Alberta/Center HS

 

Giourmetakis led Canisius to its first victory of the 2012 season, recording a career-high eight points, six goals and two assists in a 13-10 win over Albany. Giourmetakis is the first Griff to record eight points in a game since Nick LoCoco accomplished the feat in 2008 against Colgate. The senior attackman was especially key in a 9-3 second-half run that won the game for the Griffs, recording five points and four goals to lead the team to the win.

 

MAAC Defensive Player of the Week

JORDAN HOUTBY, DETROIT

LSM, Jr., 6-3, 175, St. Catharine's, Ontario/Holy Cross

 

Houtby was part of a Titan defense that saw Quinnipiac turn the ball over 27 times.  Houtby had a game-high four caused turnovers and picked up six ground balls.  This is the fourth game this year he has had four caused turnovers in a contest. Houtby also assisted on a goal for his first point of the season.

 

MAAC Rookie of the Week

TIM EDWARDS, CANISIUS

M, Fr., 6-1, 170, Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt HS

 

In his first two collegiate games of his career, Edwards reocrded five points, two goals and three assists. The rookie recorded the first point of his career with an assist at No. 3 Cornell on Tuesday before posting four points, two goals and two assists in a 13-10 win over Albany.
