FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University will host Robert Morris University on Wednesday, March 21 at Alumni Hall in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The Stags and the Colonials will tip off at 7:00 p.m.
The winner will advance to the tournament semifinals on Friday or Saturday.
Fairfield earned the right to play this game by defeating Manhattan College in the second round of the tournament, posting a 69-57 win over the Jaspers last Sunday. Maurice Barrow scored a game-high 18 points while Keith Matthews came off the bench to tie his career high with 15 points. The Stags used a 17-4 run late in the second half to turn a two-point lead into a 15- point edge. The decision gave Fairfield its' second straight 12-point win in a CIT game, as the Stags knocked off Yale University by a 68-56 margin on March 14.
Robert Morris brings a 26-10 overall record into the game which includes two wins in the CIT. The Colonials started the tourney with a 67-60 win against Indiana State and followed up with a 69-51 victory over Toledo, both of which were road games. RMU made 10 of 21 three-point shots in the Toledo game, the sixth time this year that the team reached double figures in that category. Robert Morris won all six of those games and 10 of 11 games in which it netted 10 or more three pointers under Head Coach Andrew Toole. The Colonials have split their season down the middle so far, posting a 13-5 record in conference play and a 13-5 mark in non-conference action.
Velton Jones leads the team in scoirng with 16.1 points per game, joined by Coron Williams as th team's two double-digit scorers. Williams averages 10.9 points per game and is the team's m ost accurate three-point shooter at 41 percent (85 of 205). Luck Jones is the team's top rebounder with six caroms per contest, and ranks third among his teammates with 8.7 points every forty minutes.
Rakim Sanders continues to lead the Stags in scoring and rebounding with 16.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per outing. He tied his career-high with seven assists against just one turnover in the win over Manhattan. Barrow raised his scoring average to 9.0 points per game after his 18-point performance, his best performance since tying his career high of 19 points against Quinnipiac in the season opener.
