Niagara's Green Named Mid-Major Freshman of the Year

BOSTON, MA -- Niagara's Juan'ya Green is the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Freshman of the Year.
Green started every game this season and led Niagara in scoring, assists, steals, field goals and free throws made. The nation's second leading scorer among freshman also finished third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with 17.5 points per game, third in assists with 4.3 per game and led the conference in steals with 1.8 per game. Green is the only player in the MAAC, one of 18 players in the nation and one of three freshmen nationally to lead his team in all three categories.
Green has set the school's freshman single-season record in points (543), steals (57) and free throws (176), while chasing the field goals made and assists record. He started his collegiate career by setting the school's freshman points record in a debut, scoring 23 points in Niagara's overtime win over Central Connecticut State on Nov. 14. Green broke a 33-year old Niagara freshman single-game scoring record when he netted 35 points in his first-ever conference game on Dec. 2, which is tied for fifth most by a freshman in MAAC history. Green recorded his third 30-point game on Feb. 26, which is the most by a Purple Eagles in five seasons.
