Five MAAC Players Named to NFCA Division I All-Region Teams

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced that five MAAC Softball players were named to the 2012 NFCA Division I All-Region teams, honoring student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions. A total of 263 players representing 129 different institutions comprise this season's regional teams, including first and second teams for each region.
Kate Bowen from Manhattan College was named to the Northeast First Team at utility/pitcher, while Kristen Filicia from Fairfield University earned a spot on the Second Team at second base.
On the Great Lakes Second Team are MAAC Co-Players of the Year Alyssa Maiese from Iona College (UT/P) and Shannon Jones from Siena College (SS) along with MAAC Pitcher of the Year Sarah Jackson.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to one of three 2012 NFCA Division I All-American teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
The 2012 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at 4 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, May 30, on NFCA.org.
