City, N.J. - Saint Peter's College's Adam Purcilly
has been appointed as a member of the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory
Committee (SAAC). Purcilly, a pitcher on the Peacock baseball team, term of
service on the committee will begin July 1, 2012 and continue through July 1,
2014.
"It's a great honor for us as a program to be
associated with Adam," stated Pitching Coach Sean Cashman. "Adam
works just as hard at practice as he does in the classroom, and will be a great
representative of Saint Peter's and the MAAC."
NCAA National SAAC Representatives serve as the
student-athlete voice for each of the NCAA's member athletic conferences.
Purcilly was selected from a pool of candidates nominated by the MAAC who were
then asked to submit a written application.
In addition to being a member of the baseball team for the
past three years, Purcilly has been an active member of SAAC and community
service efforts. He helped organize the college athlete mentoring program in
Hudson County and has served in a leadership role in the Peacocks' Toys for
Tots initiative.
As a member of the honors program, Purcilly has maintained a
perfect 4.0 Cumulative GPA and made the Dean's List every semester. Purcilly is
a member of Pi Mu Epsilon (Mathematics Honors Society) Phi Alpha Theta (History
Honors Society), and Kappa Delta Pi (Education Honors Society), and serves as
the Community Service Liaison for the History Club.
On the field this season, Purcilly has primarily worked out
of the bullpen. He made the most of his lone start - recording a complete-game
victory at LIU-Brooklyn on April 11th. In that game he scattered 11 hits over
his nine innings, holding the Blackbirds to just one run, while striking out
four and walking only one batter.
