Neuendorf, Vitale, Hiller and Steinberger Honored With Weekly Awards

College's Lance Neuendorf was named the MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, while
Marist College's Erica Vitale earned the award on the women's side. Rider
University's Trevor Hiller was chosen as the Men's Diver of the Week, and Fairfield
University's Ashlee Steinberger was selected as the Women's Diver of the Week.
Neuendorf lead the Jaspers to go 2-0 with wins over New
Jersey Institute of Technology and Iona College on Sunday and Monday. He won
all seven events he competed, breaking two school records in the process. On
Sunday, the rookie led off the 200 medley relay squad with a 25.99 split en
route to the event victory. He also added two individual wins against the
Highlanders in the 200 free with a final time of 1:46.47 and 100 butterfly
posting a final time of 54.22. In the Jaspers' victory against the Gaels, Neuendorf won three
individual events including the 100 butterfly, 100 and 200 backstrokes. He set
two new school records finishing the 100 back in 53.41 and finishing the 200
back in 1:56.76. He also earned a personal best in the 100 yard butterfly with
a winning time of 52.86.
On
Sunday, Vitale had a leading role in Marist's come-from-behind victory at Seton
Hall University, as she earned a victory in the 200 butterfly and an important
runner-up finish in the 200 individual medley. In the butterfly event, Vitale
swam a strong race and pulled away at the end from Seton Hall's Jane Ehret for
a 0.67-second victory at 2:08.65. Trailing at the 150 yard mark, she swam her
last 50 in 33.82 versus Ehret's 34.93. In the final individual race of the day,
the 200 IM, Vitale teamed with fellow seniors Kate Conard and Katie Larkin to
go 1-2-3 and earn an important 16 points for Marist. She finished with in
second place with a time of 2:13.01. With the 1-2-3 finish in the IM, Marist
would take an eight point lead into the final relay, which the Red Foxes won to
give Seton Hall its first loss of the regular season.
In Rider's tri-meet against Fordham and Yale, Hiller earned two
top 2-place finishes. He won the 1-meter event with a score of 288.45 and was
runner-up on the 3-meter board with a score of 286.55.
Steinberger
won both diving events for the Stags in their meet
against Iona on Sunday. She posted a score of 227.18 on the 1-meter to
win the event by 30 points. On the 3-meter, Steinberger had a winning mark of
250.50, just .10 off of her personal best.
The
2013 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will be held
February 14-16 at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
