Rider's Penas Named Corvias ECAC Field Hockey Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Edison, NJ – Rider University senior Sandra Penas was named Corvias ECAC Division I Field Hockey Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Penas, who was selected by the MAAC as Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, led Rider to a 2-0 week, scoring six points on one goal and four assists in games against Saint Joseph’s and Lehigh. In the Broncs 2-1 overtime win at Saint Joseph’s last Friday, Penas assisted on the game winning shot with less than two minutes remaining in the first overtime. Her first assist of the game and allowed the Broncs to tie the score 1-1 and made Penas Rider’s all-time leading scorer.

In the Broncs 3-2 win at Lehigh on Sunday, Penas had a hand in all three goals, scoring once and also assisting on the game-winner for the second game in a row. Her seventh goal of the season gave Rider a 1-0 lead over the Mountain Hawks and after Lehigh tied the game 1-1, her assist gave Rider a 2-1 lead just over six minutes later. After the Mountain Hawks retied the game 2-2, Penas set up the game-winner with less than 20 minutes remaining in the second half.

The MAAC preseason Player of the Year leads Rider with nine assists and 23 points and is second on the team with seven goals. Penas ranks 4th nationally in assists per game with .82.
