Edison, NJ Monmouth University’s Khari Bowen was named Corvias ECAC Division I Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, while Iona College’s Kate Avery earned the award on the women’s side for the second time this season.

Bowen, who was named the MAAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week yesterday, raced to a first place finish at the Paul Short Run, recording a time of 25:04 on the 8k course to win the “Brown Race”, besting nearly 400 competitors. The junior became the first Hawk to ever finish first at the Paul Short Run, leading the Hawks to a third place team finish at the meet. For Bowen, it was his second consecutive race leading the Hawks, following a third place mark at the Monmouth Invitational two weeks ago.

Avery, who was also honored by the MAAC as Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, was the Gaels top finisher at the 2013 Paul Short Run Gold Race at Lehigh University, finishing fourth overall. The sophomore completed the 6k course in 20:16, six seconds off the No. 2 spot at the event. Earlier in the season, Avery won the individual title at the 19th Annual Br. Doyle Meet of Champions, running the 6k course in 21:31:03.
