Warner, Mulligan, Bailey, & Lonkert Honored with MAAC Weekly Awards

Edison, N.J. – Niagara University's Shawn Warner was named the MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, while Fairfield’s Kelly Mulligan earned the award on the Women's side. Rider University's Wayco Bailey and Heather Lonkert were chosen as the Men’s and Women's Divers of the Week.
Freshman Shawn Warner opened up his career as a Purple Eagle on a strong note, breaking a pair of Niagara records during the WNY Invitational held at the University at Buffalo Natatorium on Saturday. Warner pocketed second-place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:55.16, breaking Mike Smiechowski’s Niagara record of 1:56.21 and followed that with a fourth place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:10.15, breaking Alex Siuda’s record of 4:16.07. The rookie also clocked in at 4:42.99 in the 500 freestyle for second place. His time was only .28 seconds shy of the NU record.
Kelly Mulligan recorded three individual victories in the Stags’ season opening victory against Holy Cross. Mulligan captured the 100m backstroke finishing in 1:08.73, the 200m backstroke posting a time of 2:27.33, and the 200m IM with a time of 2:30.26. She also swam lead leg in the 200m medley relay which finished second with a time of 2:09.37.
Bailey won the three-meter diving event with a score of 293.62, and was runner-up to his teammate Trevor Hiller on the one-meter event posting a score of 281.40 as Rider competed against Maryland Baltimore County to open the 2013-14 season.
In her first collegiate meet, Lonkert almost qualified for the NCAA Zone Meet, winning the three-meter event posting a score of 237.97. Also winning the one-meter diving event, Lonkert scored a 255.82 as Rider had a strong opening to their season.
