Riverdale, N.Y. - The Manhattan Men's Baseball team took part in a 5K run on Sunday, September 22 to help support "Michael's Cause" and the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Michael Capolongo is a seven year old young man from Staten Island who was diagnosed with DMD in November 2010. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is the leading fatal genetic disorder worldwide. It effects 1 in 3500 boys.
Head Coach James Duffy's vision for the 2014 Jasper Baseball team is to not only participate and support the 5K run, but to become a part of the Michael's Cause team. The team has invited Michael to become an honorary part of the team. The Men's Baseball team will continue to help raise awareness for Michael's condition. Coach Duffy believes these service opportunities with be a valuable experience for our student-athletes to support something greater than themselves, and to realize how fortunate they are.
Robert Capolongo (Michael's Dad) and Joe Orrico (Exec. Board member of Michael's Cause) visited the team on campus on Wednesday, Sept 18, at 3:30.
