MAAC Sports
MAAC Offensive Player of the Week
DANA COSTELLO, Monmouth
F, Sr., 5-4, Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial
The first place Hawks extended their unbeaten streak to nine matches with a pair of victories last week as Costello played a key role, contributing three points with a goal and assist. Costello scored the game-winning goal in a 3-0 win over Rider last Wednesday. In Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Marist, Costello assisted off a corner kick on the game-winning goal. The senior increased her season point total to 20 points, on six goals and a game-high eight assists.
MAAC Defensive Player of the Week
ASHLEY LEWIS, Monmouth
G, 5-Sr., 5-5, Freehold, N.J./Freehold Boro
Lewis posted two more shutouts last week for the Hawks. The goalkeeper came up with four saves for the Hawks against Rider, and then added two more saves in a win over Marist. The fifth-year senior now has a 0.40 goals-against-average on the season. This is the second time this season that Lewis has been named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
KATHLEEN LAWVER, Canisius
MF, Fr., 6-0, Stevens, PA/Cocalico
Lawver shook off the injury bug that has hampered her during her rookie season by scoring a goal and an assist in the Golden Griffins 2-1 victory over Quinnipiac. In the match’s 35th minute, Lawver set up the game-tying goal with long ball to forward Brittany Krause. Lawver then scored the eventual game-winner on a shot from 18 yards out. It was just Lawver’s fifth match of the season after missing much of it due to injury. Lawver did not play in Canisius’ 2-0 loss to Siena earlier in the week.
