EDISON, NJ – The seeds are set for the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship, to be held Oct. 31-Nov. 4 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL.

Monmouth University finished its first regular season in the MAAC with a 0-0 double overtime tie at Quinnipiac on Saturday, and won the league’s regular season championship, and the top seed in the upcoming championship, with an 8-0-2 mark in league play. The Hawks are 14-1-2 overall, and begin play in the MAAC Championship on Friday, Nov. 1, in the quarterfinal round playing the winner of the No. 8 Niagara vs. No. 9 Canisius opening round match.

All 11 teams in the MAAC will participate in the 2013 women’s soccer championship, a single-elimination tournament, with the top five seeds receiving an opening round round bye. In addition to top-seeded Monmouth, also receiving a first-round bye will be No. 2 seed Fairfield, No. 3 seed Iona, No. 4 seed Marist and No. 5 seed Rider.

The opening round begins Oct. 31 at 11 a.m., when No. 6 seed Siena faces No. 11 Saint Peter’s at 11:00 a.m. The second opening round game, at 12:30 p.m., features No. 7 Quinnipiac vs. No. 10 Manhattan. The third and final opening round match has No. 8 Niagara facing No. 9 Canisius at 2:00 p.m.

Fairfield, which fell 1-0 at Rider in its final match of the regular season, took second place with a 7-2-1 league record. The Stags will face the winner of the Quinnipiac-Manhattan match in the second quarterfinal round match on Nov. 1 at 11:15 a.m.

Iona defeated Niagara 2-1 in its regular season finale today to improve to 6-2-2 in league play and move past idle Marist into third place. The Gaels will face the winner of the Siena-Saint Peter’s match in the first quarterfinal round match on Nov. 1 at 11 a.m.

Marist finished the regular season with a 6-4 record and in fourth place. The No. 4 seeded Red Foxes play No. 5 seed Rider in the third quarterfinal round match at 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 1.

Both Rider and Siena finished with 5-4-1 regular season records to finish in a tie for fifth place, but the Broncs took the No. 5 seed in the championship by winning the tie-breaker with Siena, having defeated the Saints 1-0 in head-to-head competition earlier this season. Rider moved past Siena on the final day of the regular season with its 1-0 win over Fairfield.

Following a practice round day on Nov. 2, the four quarterfinal round winners will advance to the semifinals at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Nov. 3. The MAAC championship game will Nov. 4 at 12:00 p.m. The winner of that match will receive the MAAC’s automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship.
