Manhattan Advances With 1-0 Decision Over Quinnipiac

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL  -- Freshman midfielder Erica Modena scored less than five minutes into the game, and the 10th seeded Manhattan College women’s soccer team made that score hold for the remainder of the match as the Jaspers scored a 1-0 decision over 7th seeded Quinnipiac in an opening round game of the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship, held at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports.

Manhattan will now face No. 2 seed Fairfield in a quarterfinal round game on Friday, at 11:15 a.m. Fairfield drew an opening round bye.

Modena’s goal was assisted by Aislinn McIlvenny. Modena was ranked No. 10 in the conference in the regular season in points per game at 0.86.

Manhatta’s sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Skoniecny registered four saves, while Quinnipiac’s sophomore backstop Natalia Grodzki had two saves.

The victory improved Manhattan to 6-12-1, while Quinnipiac fell to 3-8-5.
