Maddee, Petrello and Flath Earn Men's Soccer Awards

Marcel Maddee of Saint Peter’s was named Offensive Player of the Week, Julian Petrello of Iona was named Defensive Player and Christian Flath of Rider was named Rookie of the Week for this week’s MAAC men’s soccer weekly awards.
MAAC Offensive Player of the Week
MARCEL MADDEE, Saint Peter’s
M/F, Jr., 5-10, 163, Berlin, Germany/Gymnasium Villa Elisabeth
Maddee scored both goals for Saint Peter’s as the visiting Peacocks came from behind to tie Niagara, 2-2, in the MAAC season opener for both teams. Both of Maddee’s goals forced ties, as Niagara had leads of 1-0 and 2-1. Maddee’s second goal came at 81:39 into the match from 15-yards out to force overtime. Maddee converted both of his shots on goal.
MAAC Defensive Player of the Week
JULIAN PETRELLO, Iona
G, Fr., 6-3, New York, NY/HS-Math, Science & Engineering
Red-shirt freshman Julian Petrello came up with nine saves as his Iona squad battled to a 0-0 tie in double overtime at Quinnipiac. Petrello faced a Bobcats offense which took 17 shots. Petrello made three saves in the first half, and then came up with six in the second half, to register his career high. It was Petrello’s third shutout of the year.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
CHRISTIAN FLATH, Rider
M, Fr., 5-11, 165, Bargeshagen, Germany/Christophorusschule
Flath scored four points in two matches for the Broncs’ including a goal and assist in the 3-1 victory over Marist for their first MAAC win of the year. He scored the first goal against the Red Foxes to give Rider a 1-0 lead, and then provided the assist on what proved to be the game winner. Flath also had an assist in a 2-1 non-conference double OT loss to Seton Hall.
