Iona’s sophomore Kate Avery, (Newton Aycliffe, England), was the Gaels top finisher at the 2013 Paul Short Run Gold Race at Lehigh University, finishing fourth overall. Avery completed the 6k course in 20:16, six seconds off of the No. 2 spot at the event. Iona placed 11th overall in the 48-team, 406-runner race field. The Gaels finished behind No. 6 Georgetown, No. 12 Villanova, No. 10 Cornell, No. 30 Columbia, No. 29 West Virginia, and No. 13 Penn State and ahead of Toledo, who was receiving votes in last week's poll. For Bowen, it was his second consecutive race leading the Hawks, following a third place mark at the Monmouth Invitational two weeks ago. His running helped Monmouth move up a place in the USTFCCCA regional rankings, sliding up to 13th in the Mid-Atlantic region.
