HAMDEN, Conn. – The first of the preseason hoops magazines have hit the newsstands, and for the first time in program history the Quinnipiac University women's basketball team has made its way onto a national poll. The Bobcats were recently ranked 25th in the Lindy's Magazine Women's Basketball Preseason Poll, which was released on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013.
Taking the top position in the poll was reigning NCAA Tournament Champion Connecticut, while Duke, California, Notre Dame, Stanford, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisville, Baylor and Maryland rounded out the top 10. Finishing out the top 25 was Dayton, Colorado, South Carolina, Penn State, Gonzaga, Chattanooga, Purdue, Iowa State, Georgia, Creighton, Texas A&M, Wisconsin-Green Bay, UCLA, LSU and Quinnipiac.
Head coach Tricia Fabbri and the Bobcats return four out of five starters from last year's team, including over 76 percent of its scoring. Northeast Conference Tournament MVP Brittany McQuain is back for her senior season, while the team's second-leading scorer from a year ago, Jasmine Martin, is back for her third year with the program. Quinnipiac also returns Samantha Guastella and Camryn Warner to the front court, along with the team's MVP and point guard Gillian Abshire.
