Monmouth Women's Soccer To Face Penn State In NCAA

EDISON, N.J. – The Monmouth University women’s soccer team, winners of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season and Championship titles, will travel to Penn State in the first round of the NCAA’s Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. The Hawks wll face the Nttany Lions on Friday (Nov. 15) at 7:30 p.m.

The 64-team field was announced today by the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Committee. First round matches will be played Nov. 15-16, followed by the second matches on Nov. 22, and third round matches on Nov. 24. Quarterfinal matches will be played Nov. 29 and 30, all on campus sites.

The NCAA’s Women’s College Cup will be played Dec. 6 and 8 at WakeMedSoccer Park in Cary, N.C., with Campbell University serving as the host institution. The semifinals will be Dec. 6, and the national championship match will be Dec. 8  at 3:00 p.m.

The Hawks received the MAAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship after defeating Fairfield, 3-0, in the conference’s championship match on Monday, Nov. 4. Monmouth, now 17-1-2 swept through the MAAC Championship without giving up a goal in three matches.

Penn State, of the Big Ten Conference, posted a 14-6-1 record in 2013. The Nittany Lions advanced to the title game of last year’s NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship, where they fell to North Carolina 4-1.
