MAAC Offensive Player of the Week
FRANKLIN CASTELLANOS, Iona

Senior Franklin Castellanos tallied three points on a goal and an assist as Iona closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win over Manhattan. Castellanos put the Gaels on top for good early in the second half when he took a cross from teammate Samuel Adjei and beat the goalkeeper to the left side in the 49th minute. It was Castellanos’ ninth goal of the year, and second goal winner. Castellanos then turned playmaker when he assisted on senior Tommy Martin’s goal in the 58th minute. It was the second straight week that Castellanos was named Offensive Player of the Week. Iona opens play in the 2013 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship on Friday, when it faces Quinnipiac at 7:00 P.M.
MAAC Defensive Player of the Week
RYAN ARVIN, Canisius
G, Sr., 5-10, 175, Jupiter, Fla.
Ryan Arvin came up big for the Griffins when they needed it, with five saves as Canisius registered a 1-0 overtime victory against MAAC regular-season champion Monmouth. It was Monmouth’s first conference loss this season, and its first MAAC loss ever. It was Arvin’s fourth shutout of the season. Arvin ended the season with a Canisius’ record of 1.08 goals against average.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
JULIAN PETRELLO, Iona
G, RFr., 6-3, 170, New York, NY/HS – Math, Science & Engineering
Goalkeeper Julian Petrello notched six saves en route to his sixth shutout of the season, a 2-0 victory over Manhattan. Manhattan peppered the Gaels’ defense with 19 shots, with Petrello making four stops in the first half and two more in the second. It’s the second time this season that Petrello was named MAAC Rookie of the Week, and earlier in the campaign he was a Defensive Player of the Week. Iona will take the third-seed into the 2013 MAAC Championships, Nov. 15-17, at Fairfield, and will face Quinnipiac in the semifinal round.
