MAAC Men's Soccer Championships Semifinals Set

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The semifinal round is set for the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship.
In the first semifinal, Monmouth University, the No. 1 seed, will take on No. 4 seed Manhattan College at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, at Fairfield University’s Lessing Field. The second semifinal will feature No. 2 seed Quinnipiac University against No. 3 seed Iona College, at 7 p.m.
The winners will advance to the 2013 MAAC Championship title game, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17.
Monmouth, which shared the MAAC’s regular season title with Quinnipiac, finished the regular season with a 7-1-2 record in league play, and 8-6-4 overall. Manhattan enters the championship as the No. 4 seed, after compiling a 5-3-2 record in conference play. Monmouth holds an all-time 4-1-1 advantage over the Jaspers, which includes a scoreless tie on Oct. 30.
Quinnipiac was also 7-1-2 in conference action, and 9-4-5 overall. The second-seeded Bobcats went 8-1-2 in their last 11 matches. They will take on the third-seeded Iona Gaels, who were 7-2-1 in league play, and 10-6-2 overall. Iona features the MAAC’s top scorers in Franklin Castellanos, who tallied 31 points in the 2013 season.
The semifinal round winners will square off for the MAAC Championship on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1:00 p.m., with the winner receiving the league’s automatic bid to the NCCA Men’s Division I Soccer Championship.
All three games of the 2013 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship will be broadcast live on MAAC.TV.
