Quinnipiac To Face UConn In NCAA Tournament

EDISON, N.J. – The Quinnipiac University men’s soccer team will face the University of Connecticut in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship on Thursday, Nov. 21. The Bobcats' first-round match against the Huskies will kickoff at 6:30 p.m., at UConn's Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.
The Bobcats are making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship after winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship. Quinnipiac, 9-4-7 overall, will visit the Huskies, 11-2-6, in the first round. The winner will face the tournament’s 16th seed, America East champion University of Maryland-Baltimore County, in the second round on Nov. 24.
Quinnipiac won the MAAC title by edging Monmouth in PKs, 4-3, after the two teams battled through scoreless regulation and two overtime periods on Nov. 17. Both Quinnipiac and Monmouth advanced to the championship round via penalty kicks as well. Quinnipiac had a 7-6 edge in PKs over Iona after those two teams fought to a 1-1 tie in the second semifinal round game, while Monmouth had 3-0 advantage in PKs over Manhattan after they battled to a scoreless tie in the first semifinal round contest.
No. 11 Connecticut advanced to the American Athletic Conference championship round, and played to a 0-0 tie against South Florida. The Bulls edged UConn 6-5 in penalty kicks to claim the inaugural American championship.
The 48-team NCAA Championship continues with third round matches on Dec. 1, followed by quarterfinal rounds Dec. 6-7, semifinals on Dec. 13, and the championship match on Dec. 15. The semifinals and championship rounds will be held at PPL Park in Philadelphia, PA.
