Monmouth Clinches Top Seed In MAAC Men's Soccer

EDISON, N.J. – The Monmouth University men’s soccer team clinched the No. 1 seed in the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship following a 2-0 victory over Niagara at home on Saturday night. The victory also gives the Hawks at least a share of the MAAC regular season championship.
The 2013 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship will be held Nov. 15-17 at Fairfield University’s Lessing Field, with the top four teams from regular season advancing.
With the victory over Niagara, the defending MAAC Champions, Monmouth’s record advances to 7-0-2 in conference play, and 8-5-4 overall. The Hawks have one match remaining, at Canisius next Saturday, Nov. 9.
Iona, at 6-2-1 and presently in second place in the MAAC regular season, and Quinnipiac, in third place with a 5-1-2 record, have also clinched a berth in the MAAC Championships. Seeds for Iona and Quinnipiac will be determined by the outcome of this week’s final week of regular season action.
