MAAC Women's Basketball Tips-Off This Friday

Edison, N.J. - The 2013-2014 MAAC women's basketball season begins on Friday, Nov. 8 with eight teams in action.
Fairfield University will kick off the MAAC women’s basketball season when it travels to Corpus Christi, Tx. to play in the Islander Tournament against UAB at 2 p.m. cst/4 p.m. EST. Quinnipiac University opens the season at home in the TD Bank Sports Center against North Carolina A&T in the Preseason Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) at 5 p.m. Also at 5 p.m. Siena College will face cross-town rival Albany in the annual Albany Cup game. Iona College will host its annual Tip-Off Tournament, with the Gaels taking on Arizona at 6:30 p.m. in the newly branded Hynes Athletic Center. Marist College will raise its 9th MAAC Championship banner prior to the 7 p.m. tip-off against No. 7 Kentucky of the Southeastern Conference in a tough non-conference contest.
Other MAAC women's contests starting at 7 p.m. include Canisius College facing Detroit at home in the Koessler Athletic Center, Niagara University at home versus Lehigh, and Rider University visiting Easton, Pa. to take on Lafayette.
Monmouth kicks off its inaugural season in the MAAC on Saturday when it hosts Yale at the MAC in West Long Branch, N.J. Saturday's action will also see the conclusion of Fairfield in the Islander Tournament (Western Ill./Texas A&M Corpus Christi) and Iona in the Iona College Tip-Off Tournament (Michigan/Bowling Green).
On Sunday Rider will head to South Orange, N.J. to face former Iona head coach Tony Bozzella and Seton Hall at 2 p.m. Saint Peter’s will start a new chapter under new head coach Pat Coyle in Hampton, Va. at 4 p.m. on the road against Hampton. Manhattan College also opens the season on Sunday when it visits Teaneck, N.J. to take on Fairleigh Dickinson at 7 p.m. If Quinnipiac defeats North Carolina A&T on Friday, the Bobcats will play in the second round of the WNIT on Sunday with the site, time, and opponent announcement on Friday following the conclusion of the first round games.
