Edison, N.J. –Manhattan College's Mohamed Koita and Saint Peter's University Steffany Laureano have been named this week’s MAAC Indoor Track & Field Male and Female Performer of the Week, for the week of December 16th.

This past weekend Manhattan, Monmouth and Saint Peter's all competed in the Manhattan College Brother Jasper Invitational. The Monmouth women placed first on the weekend, followed by Saint Peter's in second and Manhattan in third place out of the 11 schools that competed. While for the men, Manhattan took first place overall, followed by Monmouth in second and Saint Peter's in third out of the 12 competing schools to round out strong performances by all our MAAC schools.

Competing in the first indoor meet of his career, Koita broke the school record in the high jump at the Brother Jasper Invitational on Sunday.  An All-American last year, he leaped 2.19 meters (seven feet, 2¼ inches) to break Joseph Sciuto’s 16-year-old mark by one centimeter and place 1st in the event to help the Manhattan Men place 1st overall.  After this weekend Koita took over the NCAA lead in the event with that effort.

At the same event, Steffany Laureano notched a first place finish in the 400-meters, running a time of 57.79 seconds, more than a full second ahead of the 2nd place finisher. Laureano also placed first in the 200-meter dash, notching a time of 26.08 seconds. Her two first place finishes helped lead Saint Peter's to a strong second place finish overall. This is Laureano's second week in a row that she has won a 400-meter event and is now a ECAC/IC4A qualifier in the 400-meter dash.

The 2013 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held on Friday, February 21st at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in NYC.
