ECAC Honors Bobcats Azotam and Peacocks Washington

EDISON, N.J. – Senior forward Ike Azotam of Quinnipiac University and junior guard Desi Washington of Saint Peter’s University have been honored as Corvias ECAC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week, for the week ending Dec. 15.

Azotam received ECAC Division I New England honors as he averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds in two games for the Bobcats. He scored 24 points and added seven rebounds in a loss at Rider, and then tallied 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Quinnipiac bounced back with a 80-67 victory over Vermont. It was the 32nd career double-double for Azotam.

Washington received ECAC Division I Metro/Upstate recognition after pouring in a career-high 34 points, including the game winning three-point field goal with 3.3 seconds remaining, to give Saint Peter’s a 83-80 overtime victory over Seton Hall. The victory ended Saint Peter’s 17-game losing streak against the Pirates (dating back to Dec., 1995). Washington was good on 7-of-9 three-point field goals, and 10-of-17 overall. He hit a number of key baskets during the game, including a three-pointer with 42 seconds left in overtime to give the Peacocks a 78-75 lead, as well as the game winner less than 40 seconds later. Washington added five rebounds, two steals, and one block in the winning cause.

Washington was also named College Sports Madness Mid-Major National Player of the Week, and College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week for his clutch performance against the Pirates.

Washington shared ECAC Division I Metro/Upstate Player of the Week honors with Princeton guard T.J. Bray averaged  17 points and 10.5 rebounds in two wins for the Tigers.
