Iona's Bowman, Monmouth's James Take Weekly Awards

It was a memorable afternoon for Iona senior Tre Bowman, who scored a season and career high 29 points to lead Iona past 2013 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen participant Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday. Bowman sank 11-of-13 of his field goal attempts (84.6%), including 4-of-6 from beyond the three-point arc, in the Gaels’ road victory. Bowman also added five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Bowman’s second three-pointer of the afternoon gave the Gaels their largest lead of the first half, 52-37, with 1:19 left before halftime. Bowman scored 15 of Iona’s first 19 points in the second half, capping the run with a steal at mid-court and a breakaway dunk to give the Gaels a 20-point leading with 11:58 left.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
JOSH JAMES, Monmouth

James played a critical role for the Hawks, who won two of three games last week. James came off the bench to average 9.3 points and 4.7 assists for the Hawks. He averaged 21.3 minutes per game, and added 12 rebounds and three steals. In the Hawks lone loss of the week at Penn State, he scored a team-high 12 points and grabbed four rebounds. In Monmouth’s come-from-behind win over Mississippi Valley State, James scored 14 points, hitting 5-of-7 from the floor, and added four rebounds and four assists. In his final game of the week, James dished off nine assists and contributed two steals and four rebounds, in Monmouth’s win over North Carolina A&T. The rookie leads Monmouth with 4.0 assists per game, and is third with 9.3 points per game. It was the second time this season that he has been named Rookie of the Week.
