MAAC Play Begins for Women's Basketball on Sunday

EDISON, N.J. – Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s basketball teams return to the court on Sunday, Dec. 29 to begin league play after having a week off for the Christmas holiday.  

At 1:00 p.m., Quinnipiac will host Niagara at the TD Bank Sports Center to lead off the day. Quinnipiac is currently 1-1 in conference play this year while this will be Niagara’s first league game of the season after finishing 9-9 in conference play last season. This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams in history.  

At 2:00 p.m., Canisius heads to Riverdale to take on Manhattan. Canisius is 0-1 in league play this year while this will be Manhattan’s first league game after finishing 4-14 in 2012-13. The teams split their two meetings last season. Also at 2:00 p.m., Iona welcomes Siena to Hynes Athletic Center. Iona finished second in the league last season with a 13-5 league mark and championship game appearance while Siena posted an 8-10 MAAC record. The two teams split their regular season matchups in 2012-13 while Iona defeated Siena in the MAAC semifinals. In the final 2:00 p.m. contest, Monmouth will host its first MAAC league game against rival Saint Peter’s. Monmouth leads the all-time series record 8-7 with the Hawks winning the last meeting between the two teams on Dec. 11, 2011.  

Fairfield will travel to the Bronc Zoo to face Rider for the final game of the day at 4:00 p.m. Fairfield finished the 2012-13 season at 11-7 in the MAAC, while Rider finished right behind them at 10-8. Rider swept Fairfield last season.
