MAAC Co-Players of the Week

BILLY BARON, Canisius

Sr., G, 6-2, 195, East Greenwich, R.I./Rhode Island/Bishop Hendricken

Senior Billy Baron matched his career-high with 33 points in a overtime loss in a nationally televised contest (ESPNU) at Notre Dame. Baron scored 26 of his points in the game’s final 25 minutes. Baron also grabbed six rebounds and dished off five assists, and recorded a career best six steals against the Fighting Irish. Baron, the MAAC’s Preseason Player of the Year, was good on 10-of-20 from the field, including 4-for-8 from 3-point range, and added 9-of-9 from the free-throw line while playing a career high 43 (out of a possible 45) minutes.

 

ANTOINE MASON, Niagara

RS-Jr., G, 6-3, 210, Queens, N.Y./New Rochelle

Antoine Mason scored a career-high 39 points as Niagara defeated  Brown 68-65, in the Purple Eagles’ lone game of the week. Mason, the nation’s leading scorer, increased his average to 29.1 points per game, and his 39 points is the sixth highest total scored by an individual on the Division I level this year. Mason, who scored 22 points in the first half, split the defense, drove to the rim, and converted a floater in the paint with 20 seconds left to give Niagara a 68-63 lead. Mason also set a career-high in steals with six as Niagara forced 16 steals en route to a season-high 25 turnovers forced. Mason converted 11-of-25 from the field, including 3-of-5 from behind the arc, and  14-for-17 from the free-throw line in 36 minutes.

MAAC Rookie of the Week

RYDEN HINES, Iona

Fr., F, 6-10, 240, Anchorage, AK./Impact Academy (NV)/Dimond

Freshman forward Ryden Hines Iona College scored a career-high 19 points in the Gaels' loss at Northern Iowa.  Hines converted 7-of-9 (77.8%) of his shots from the field, including 3-of-5 (60.0%) from beyond the three-point  arc, and added a pair of FTs. Hines contributed three rebounds, an assist and a steal in 25 minutes of action against the Panthers.
