MAAC Quartet Honored By NSCAA
EDISON, N.J. – Four student-athletes representing two MAAC schools have been selected to the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women’s All-Northeast Region.
Senior forward Dana Costello of Monmouth University was named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region second team, while teammates Alexa Freguletti, a junior defender, and Alexis McTamney, a freshman forward, were named to the All-Northeast Region third team.
Senior forward Brittany Pfaff of Siena College joins Freguletti and McTamney on the All-Northeast Region third team.
Costello was a key performer as the Hawks enjoyed one of their finest seasons in school history. Monmouth compiled a 17-2-2 mark, won the MAAC regular season and tournament championships, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Costello, the team’s captain, was selected as the MAAC’s Offensive Player of the Year and was the Hawks’ second leading scorer with 22 points. She concluded her Monmouth career as the 8th-all time leading scorer with 82 points.
McTamney, a freshman forward, was the MAAC’s Rookie of the Year after leading the Hawks with 27 points, including 11 goals. McTamney was one of only two freshmen selected to one of the All-Norteast Region teams. Freguletti, who joined Costello and McTamney on the MAAC’s First-Team, was Monmouth’s fourth leading scorer with 13 points on five goals and three assists.
Pfaff was the MAAC’s leading scorer during the regular season with 30 points, and tied for the league lead in the regular season with 12 goals. Pfaff was also named All-MAAC First Team. The Saints concluded the season with an 11-9-1 record, and won’t two matches in the post-season to advance to the MAAC Championships’ semifinals.
