First Week Of MAAC Play Concludes With Sunday Games

EDISON, N.J. – The first week of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s basketball action will conclude on Sunday, Dec. 8, with five afternoon games.
Fairfield (1-7 overall, 0-1 MAAC), which dropped a narrow 83-79 contest at Quinnipiac on Dec. 6, will play host to Iona (4-2, 1-0) in a 1:30 start. Iona opened MAAC play with a 83-74 victory Marist at home on Dec. 4.
Quinnipiac (5-2, 1-0) will play its first ever road game in the MAAC when it travels to Rider to face the Broncs in a battle of two 1-0 teams. Rider (3-4, 1-0) got off to a winning start with a close 89-83 victory at Monmouth on Dec. 5.
Siena (3-7, 1-0) looks to close out its “Buffalo swing” on a successful note at Canisius (4-3, 1-0) at 2 p.m. The Saints topped Niagara in both team’s first league games, while the Golden Griffs are also 1-0 as they knocked off Saint Peter’s 82-67, behind senior center Jordan Heath’s career high 28 points.
Saint Peter’s (2-5, 0-1) and Niagara (1-8, 0-1) will both be looking for their first MAAC win when the Peacocks visit the Purple Eagles at 2 p.m.
Monmouth will be seeking its first MAAC win, on the road, when it travels to Manhattan (5-2, 1-0) for a 2 p.m. tip. The Jaspers are 1-0 on the young season with a win over Marist.
