N.Y. - The Saint
Peter's University women's team captured its third straight title at the 2013
MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championship at the New Balance Armory Track
& Field Center in New York City.
The Peacocks
won the meet with a team score of 185.5. Rider University came in second with
164.5 and Manhattan College followed in third place with a score of 122.5. Iona
College finished with 59 points, followed by Loyola University Maryland (50.5)
and Marist College (32).
Jamela
Johnson from Saint Peter's was voted Most Outstanding Performer in Field Events
after placing first in the long jump (5.81m) and triple jump (11.44m).
Manhattan
College's Ashley Bowman tied for Most Outstanding Performer in Track Events by
setting new MAAC Championship records in two events. Bowman finished the
60-meter dash in 7.64, and narrowly beat the 200-meter record (24.69), set just
last year, with a time of 24.45.
Marion Joly-Testault from Iona College was the other co-Most
Outstanding Performer in Track Events, placing first in the 3,000 -meters
(10:12.68) and 5,000-meters (17:10.08).
