Edison, N.J. - University of Detroit Mercy senior long stick midfielder Jordan Houtby and Siena College senior attack Danny Martinsen were selected as two of 20 Division I Men's Lacrosse candidates for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award announced earlier today.

Twenty NCAA® lacrosse student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as candidates for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate men's lacrosse. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

Houtby is a three-time member of the University of Detroit Mercy Athletic Director's Honor Roll with a 3.175 GPA majoring in business. He is currently the NCAA active leader in caused turnovers (126) and ninth for ground balls (221). Houtby is a two-time MAAC Long Stick Midfielder of the Year and was tabbed a preseason Honorable Mention All-American and All-Conference by Inside Lacrosse entering his senior year.

Martinsen, a Marketing and Management major, has been an active participant in the BlueShield of Northeastern "Saints in the Community" program. He was tabbed 2013 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year and named to the All-MAAC First-Team and All-MAAC Tournament Team selection last season. As a junior, he ranked second in the MAAC in both scoring (62) and assists (29) and was tied for fourth in goals. A two-time MAAC Offensive Player of the Week in 2012, he ranked 14th nationally in points per game (3.88) and 17th in assists (1.81).

The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans who will select one finalist. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Lacrosse Championships in Philadelphia from May 25-27.
