Offensive Player of the Week

 

Amy Olsen, Iona

Jr., 2M, 5-7, Baytown, Texas/Ross Sterling

 

Junior Amy Olsen anchored the Iona offense this week as the Gaels started the defense of their MAAC Championship with four straight wins.  Olsen logged an astounding 27 points on 20 goals and seven assists in four games.  Against VMI, Olsen played facilitator, dishing out three assists in a 15-6 Iona win.  Olsen also drew three ejections and grabbed two steals in the victory.  Against Wagner, Olsen led the Gaels with seven goals, including the game winner with 1:33 remaining in sudden death after sending the game into sudden death with a goal with one second left in the second overtime period.  Olsen also drew four ejections against the Seahawks.

 

On Sunday against Villanova, Olsen had nine points on six goals and three assists as Iona defeated the Wildcats by nine.  Against Siena, Olsen wrapped up the weekend with seven goals and one assist.  Olsen also drew three more kickouts as Iona picked up its 15th straight conference victory, dating back to last season.


Defensive Player of the Week

 

Laura Karbach, Wagner

Sr., GK, Abington, Pennsylvania/Germantown Academy

 

In the first weekend of MAAC play, Karbach was key in between the pipes on the way to three Wagner wins. The senior stopped a total of 41 shots, while adding five assists and eight steals. Against Iona, the senior stopped a season-high 16 shots. Karbach also had 10 saves against Villanova and eight against St. Francis Brooklyn, while only allowing five goals in the two wins.

 

Rookie of the Week

 

Jess Lundgren, Wagner

Fr., Attacker, Queensland, Australia/Mountain Creek

 

In her first weekend playing against MAAC opponents, the freshman from Queensland, Australia came up big, recording 9 goals, 6 assists, 12 steals, drawing 11 exclusions, winning 2 sprints, and 1 field block.
